Apple has launched a beta version of Apple Maps for the web, aiming to challenge the dominance of Google Maps.
The new web-based service, accessible at beta.maps.apple.com, allows users to get driving and walking directions, view ratings and reviews, and explore various locations via desktop or mobile browsers.
The web version supports features such as city guides, direct food ordering from the Maps interface, and business updates. Apple plans to introduce additional features, including Look Around, in the coming months.
Currently, the service is available in English and can be used on iOS devices through Safari and Chrome, as well as on Windows PCs via Chrome and Edge.
Since the launch of Apple Maps on the iPhone in 2012, Apple has continually expanded its functionality to include detailed city maps, multi-stop routing, cycling directions, EV routing, and offline navigation. Previously, access to Apple Maps was mainly through developer APIs on platforms like DuckDuckGo.
The Overture Maps Foundation has also made its mapping dataset available, offering an alternative for developers to access mapping data.
