The Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) Cybercrime Wing has initiated an inquiry into a threatening post shared on X (formerly Twitter) from the social media account of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan.
On Saturday, a team of three FIA members, headed by Deputy Director Ayaz Khan, questioned the former prime minister for around 45 minutes at Adiala Jail. The investigation centers on a post alleged to incite unrest and target state institutions. The team, which included both investigators and technical experts, probed Khan about the post’s nature and the management of his social media account.
Imran Khan had previously insisted that he would only engage with the investigation in the presence of his legal team. The FIA team is expected to return for further investigation to determine who manages Khan’s social media accounts and issues such posts.
Information Minister Attaullah Tarar stated that the FIA is examining the misuse of social media by the PTI founder to “create anarchy and undermine national security.” Tarar also criticized the PTI leadership for using “indecent language” against journalists and women at a recent rally, demanding an apology from the party. Additionally, he condemned remarks made by Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, calling them inappropriate for a provincial leader.
The investigation into Khan’s social media activities continues, with authorities aiming to uncover the source and intent behind the controversial posts.
