Malaysia’s former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad issued a statement mourning Haniyeh’s assassination, claiming that Israel killed the “great man” because it “feared and hated everything he represented.”
Mahathir, who served as Malaysia’s premier from 1981 to 2020, described Haniyeh as “a soft-spoken man with the heart of a lion” and praised his courage, attributing it to a clear conscience and moral compass based on humanity and religious conviction.
“They may kill Mr. Haniyeh, but they cannot destroy his ideas or what he stood for,” Mahathir said.
