The people of Denmark found a clever way to respond to Trump’s claim about Greenland by launching a satirical petition titled “Make California Great Again.”

Instead of reacting with outrage, they turned the tables with humor, proposing to buy California in a playful jab at former President Donald Trump’s idea of purchasing Greenland.
The petition quickly gained traction, aiming to raise $1 trillion and 500,000 signatures, with over 200,000 Danes already backing the cause. It envisioned transforming California into “New Denmark”—where Hollywood would see more bicycles, the Danish philosophy of “Hygge” (comfort and happiness) would flourish in the streets, and local menus would feature Danish delicacies.
This lighthearted yet sharp-witted campaign was more than just a joke—it was a creative way for Danes to express their stance, using humor to highlight the irony of Trump’s Greenland proposal while reinforcing their national pride.
