Shahid Afridi Honored as T20 World Cup 2024 Ambassador

Pakistani legend Shahid Afridi has been named the latest Ambassador for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, joining a distinguished group that includes Yuvraj Singh, Chris Gayle and Usain Bolt.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced that Afridi, a key figure in Pakistan’s cricket history, will serve as an Ambassador for the tournament, set to take place in the USA and West Indies starting 1 June.

Afridi, who played in six T20 World Cups and captained Pakistan in two, was instrumental in Pakistan’s 2009 victory, earning Player of the Match honors in the final at Lord’s. As an Ambassador, he will participate in promotional activities and provide expert commentary through guest columns.

Reflecting on his appointment, Afridi stated: “The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup holds a special place in my heart. From being named Player of the Tournament in the first edition to winning the trophy in 2009, some of my best career moments are tied to this event.

Afridi further said

“T20 World Cups have grown significantly, and I’m excited to be part of this one, with more teams, matches, and drama than ever before. I’m particularly looking forward to the India vs. Pakistan match on 9 June in New York, a highlight of sporting rivalries.”
