“Congratulations! You’ve done an amazing job. Now it’s time to concentrate on scoring more runs for your team,” says de Villiers.
Former South African cricket star AB de Villiers showed support for Babar Azam after he resigned as captain of Pakistan’s white-ball team.
Babar announced his decision last night, stating he needed to focus on his playing role and personal growth. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had reappointed him as captain for T20Is and ODIs on March 31, following his earlier resignation in November 2023.

De Villiers encouraged Babar’s choice, suggesting it would allow him to return to peak form. Reacting to Babar’s post on X, he wrote, “Congratulations! You’ve done an amazing job. Now it’s time to concentrate on scoring more runs for your team.”
Reflecting on his captaincy, Babar described it as rewarding but demanding. He expressed a desire to prioritize his performance and family time, stating, “By stepping down, I will gain clarity and focus on my game and personal growth.”
This is Babar’s second resignation from captaincy, as he stepped down amid criticism after Pakistan’s poor performances in the Asia Cup and the World Cup.
