In a significant announcement for the Islamic calendar, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee has confirmed the start of Rabi ul Awwal.
The committee announced on Wednesday that the crescent for Rabi ul Awwal 1446 Hijri was not sighted in Pakistan. Consequently, the Islamic month will begin on September 6 (Friday).
The announcement followed a moon sighting committee meeting chaired by Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad in Islamabad.
Eid Milad un Nabi (PBUH) will be observed across the country on September 17 (Tuesday).
Maulana Azad stated in a press conference that, despite some clear skies, no credible moon sighting reports were received, leading the committee to agree that Rabi ul Awwal will start on September 6.
The meeting concluded with special prayers for the unity of the Muslim Ummah, the safety of Makkah and Madina, Pakistan’s security and prosperity, and the liberation of Kashmir and Palestine.
Eid Milad un Nabi, celebrating the birth of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), falls on the 12th of Rabi ul Awwal and is marked by public processions, events, and seminars on the Prophet’s life. The 12th Rabi ul Awwal is a public holiday, with all offices and educational institutions closed.
