Electric Shock For Karachiites – K-E Requests in NEPRA For Price Increase

-

Potential increase comes at time when many Karachi residents already grappling with high electricity bills.

“K-Electric Requests Rs5.45 per Unit Increase in Electricity Prices under Fuel Cost Adjustment”

K-Electric has submitted a request to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) for a rise in electricity prices by Rs5.45 per unit under the monthly Fuel Cost Adjustment (FCA). This request, made on Tuesday, seeks an increase for the months of May and June due to escalating fuel costs.

Specifically, K-Electric is asking for an increase of Rs2.53 per unit for May and an additional Rs2.92 per unit for June. NEPRA is set to hold a hearing today (Tuesday) to review the proposal, during which input from various stakeholders will be considered before a final decision is made.

This request is part of the FCA mechanism that allows power companies to adjust electricity rates in response to fuel price fluctuations, ensuring these costs are passed on to consumers and maintaining the financial stability of the utility company.

The proposed increase comes at a challenging time for many Karachi residents who are already facing high electricity bills and frequent power outages. The outcome of NEPRA’s decision will be closely monitored by consumers and industry observers, as it will significantly impact the cost of living and business operations in the city.
