Louisiana, USA – In a controversial move, a US immigration court has ordered the deportation of Mahmood Khalil, a prominent pro-Palestine activist and former Columbia University student.

Despite being a legal permanent resident with a US citizen wife and a son born in the country, Khalil faces expulsion to either Algeria or Syria.

The court’s decision, issued by Judge Jaime Comans, alleges that Khalil “deliberately misrepresented” facts on his green card application. However, Khalil’s legal team from the ACLU has called the charges “baseless and retaliatory,” announcing an appeal to challenge the ruling.

Khalil, who was a key figure in nationwide campus protests, has accused the US government of attempting to punish his freedom of speech.

This case has ignited a fresh debate on civil liberties and the treatment of pro-Palestine voices in the United States.
