In an exciting development for architecture enthusiasts and the global skyline, construction of the Jeddah Tower, soon to become the tallest building in the world, has officially resumed after several years of delays.
The Burj Khalifa in Dubai has held the title since 2010, but Jeddah Tower is on track to surpass it, with an anticipated completion date in 2028. At a ceremony held on October 2 by the Jeddah Economic Company at the construction site, it was confirmed that the world’s first one-kilometer-high building is becoming a reality.
Initially launched in 2013, the construction of Jeddah Tower was halted in 2017 when one-third of the structure was completed. The tower will rise to a staggering height of 3,280 feet, making it the first building to exceed one kilometer.
Designed to include a hotel, apartments, offices, outdoor decks, and other facilities, the 170-story structure aims to offer a multifunctional space for residents and visitors alike. The initial construction cost was estimated at $2 billion, but the extended pause in work has increased expenses.
While the official ceremony marked the resumption of work, reports and satellite images had indicated that construction activities were quietly ongoing for several months.
Once completed, Jeddah Tower will not only claim the title of the tallest building from Burj Khalifa, which stands at 2,722 feet, but it will also redefine the boundaries of architectural achievement on a global scale.
