A nightmare is unfolding in Yemen — Nimisha Priya, an Indian nurse from Kerala, is just days away from the gallows.
Convicted of killing a local man in 2017 under chilling circumstances, Nimisha now faces execution on July 16. Prison authorities have already given her the date — and her mother, camped in Yemen since 2024, is running out of time to save her.

Sedative Turned Fatal
In 2015, Nimisha partnered with Yemeni national Talal Abdo Mahdi to run a clinic. But things turned dark. According to her family, after Mahdi allegedly seized her passport, she tried to sedate him to get it back — but the injection went horribly wrong. Mahdi died. Nimisha was arrested trying to flee.
Blood Money or Death
Yemen’s courts sentenced her to death, and now, after all appeals have failed, only forgiveness from the victim’s family can stop the hanging. A massive offer of $1 million in blood money has been made — but so far, the family has refused.
A Mother’s Desperate Fight
Nimisha’s mother, Prema Kumari, hasn’t left Yemen for over a year. She’s knocking on every door — begging for her daughter’s life.
Modi Govt Under Fire
Meanwhile, outrage is growing in India. Where is the Indian government? Critics say Prime Minister Modi’s team has done little beyond lip service. “The government is busy with optics,” say human rights groups, “while an Indian citizen is about to be hanged.”
If no miracle happens, July 16 could end in a noose — and a horrifying chapter for a woman thousands of miles from home.
