Shehroze Kashif, Pakistan’s youngest climber to conquer K2, has become a global symbol of determination and achievement. Following his groundbreaking feat, he is calling for greater recognition and support for mountaineers who represent Pakistan on the world’s highest peaks.
In a recent interview, the 21-year-old climber shared insights into his journey, passion for the sport, and his vision for the future of mountaineering in Pakistan.
“I began climbing 11 years ago, and I’ve been fortunate to achieve many milestones since,” Kashif said. He expressed immense pride in becoming the youngest person to scale K2, the world’s second-highest mountain, and highlighted how this accomplishment has brought global attention to Pakistan.
Kashif also praised the government’s efforts to support athletes across various sports. “The Pakistani government is supporting all athletes, which is a positive move. I’m looking forward to it,” he remarked.
He stressed the importance of mountaineering, noting that it not only showcases Pakistan’s natural beauty but also enhances the country’s image internationally. “Mountaineers represent Pakistan on the world’s highest peaks and deserve encouragement,” he added.
Looking ahead, Kashif expressed his hope to meet with key political figures, including Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, President Asif Zardari, and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, to discuss the future of mountaineering in the country. “It would be an honor if the Chief Minister, President, or PM encourages me. That would be the best,” he concluded.
