Road to T20 World Cup 2024 – Pakistan’s Complex Journey

-

Pakistan has lost two games in a row and is now in a tricky situation.

They need to win their next two matches and hope that other teams perform well, enabling them to advance to the next round of the T20 World Cup 2024.”

People often criticize the Pakistani team for ending up in these tough situations during ICC tournaments. Now, their progress depends on how well other teams play.

In the tournament, there are five teams in each group, but only two teams can move forward to the next round. In Group A, Pakistan is up against India, the US, Canada, and Ireland.

Pakistan currently holds zero points, having not secured a victory in their last two matches, one against the US and the other against India. Meanwhile, India and the US lead the points table with 4 points each, having won their previous two matches.

The Pakistani team’s chances now heavily rely on winning their next two matches against Ireland and Canada, as well as hoping for the US to lose their next two matches against India and Ireland.

Even if Pakistan manages to win both matches, their fate hinges on achieving a better net run rate than the US to qualify for the Super Eight stage.

Alternatively, if the US wins one more match, Pakistan’s net run rate won’t matter anymore, as they will be eliminated from the tournament.

Pakistan faced two consecutive losses in the World Cup, both of which were closely contested. In one match, Pakistan lost in a Super Over, while in the other, they fell short by just six runs against India, despite restricting them to 119 runs. These defeats were disheartening for Pakistani fans who had high hopes for their team to win the ICC trophy.

In the match against India, Pakistan bowlers put up an impressive performance, limiting India to 119 runs after winning the toss at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium. However, despite their efforts, Pakistan could only manage 113-7 in their innings, with Jasprit Bumrah’s 3-14 in four overs proving decisive.

In the match against the USA, it ended in a thrilling Super Over, with the hosts emerging victorious by five runs. During the Super Over, Mohammad Amir bowled first, and the USA scored 18-1. Pakistan could only manage 13-1 in response at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas.
