PCB Chief’s Tone Shift – From ‘Major Surgery’ To ‘Nation Behind Team’

-

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has softened his stance and called on the nation to support the cricket team during the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024.

Despite earlier harsh criticisms, Naqvi now emphasizes unity and patience.

In an exclusive conversation with Geo News outside Parliament House on Wednesday, Naqvi stated, “The consultation is ongoing and it is not appropriate to discuss further at this juncture.

”He was addressing questions regarding potential measures after the team’s disappointing performance in the tournament”.

The Green Shirts have lost two out of their three matches so far, risking an early exit from the tournament.

Their progress into the Super 8 stage now hinges on the outcomes of other matches. Naqvi advised the nation to “wait for the tournament’s final result” as there are still matches left to be played in the league stage.

Naqvi reiterated the importance of supporting the team, insisting, “We have to move ahead” with the current squad. He emphasized that everyone is praying for the team’s success.

Earlier in the week, Naqvi had voiced his disappointment following Pakistan’s loss to India, suggesting that the team’s poor performance indicated the need for significant changes.

He had remarked, “It seemed that a minor surgery would work but after this bad performance, I’m now sure that a major surgery is required. The nation will soon see a major overhaul.” He described the defeat against India as disappointing in every sense and assured that he is aware of the internal issues affecting the team’s performance.

Now, Naqvi’s tone has shifted towards fostering a supportive environment as the team continues their campaign in the T20 World Cup.
