In a significant leadership change, Pakistan cricketer Babar Azam has announced his resignation as captain of the national white-ball team following the team’s underwhelming performance in the T20 World Cup 2024.
Babar conveyed the news on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “Dear Fans, I have some important news to share with you today.”
“I have chosen to step down as captain of the Pakistan men’s cricket team, effective from my notification to the PCB and Team Management last month. Leading this team has been an honor, but now it’s time for me to focus on my role as a player,” Azam stated.
He added, “Captaincy has been a rewarding experience, but it has also brought a significant workload. I want to prioritize my performance, enjoy my batting, and spend more quality time with my family, which brings me happiness.”
Azam mentioned, “By stepping down, I aim to gain clarity moving forward and invest more energy into my game and personal development. I am thankful for your unwavering support and belief in me. Your enthusiasm means the world to me.”
He concluded, “I am proud of what we have achieved together and look forward to continuing to contribute to the team as a player. Thank you for your love and support.”
