In a heartbreaking turn of events, German Olympic biathlon legend Laura Dahlmeier has passed away during a mountaineering expedition in northern Pakistan, officials from Gilgit-Baltistan confirmed on Wednesday.

According to government spokesperson Faizullah Firaq, Dahlmeier lost her life while climbing in a remote, rugged region. A rescue mission was immediately launched after reports of the incident surfaced.
Authorities confirmed that her body will be brought to Naltar Valley before any formal statements are made. A second helicopter is on standby should the rescue team require further assistance.
Dahlmeier, a national hero in Germany, was a multiple Olympic medalist and world champion before retiring from professional sports. Local officials are now working closely with German authorities to ensure a smooth repatriation process.
