Ishan Kishan Mocks Rizwan’s Appeals, Calls It ‘Unnecessary Theatrics’

“India’s Ishan Kishan takes a swipe at Pakistan captain Mohammad Rizwan’s excessive appealing, reigniting the age-old cricketing rivalry.”

Indian batter Ishan Kishan, currently playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2025, has stirred controversy by taking a jibe at Mohammad Rizwan over his constant appealing behind the stumps.

Kishan made the remark during a chat with former Indian umpire Anil Chaudhary, who has previously criticized Rizwan’s wicketkeeping antics. In a now-viral video, Chaudhary asked Kishan if he had changed his approach to appealing over time.

Ishan Kishan Mocks Rizwan’s Appeals, Calls It 'Unnecessary Theatrics’

“I think umpires have become smarter. If we appeal every time, they might even refuse to give genuine outs,” Kishan said. “It’s better to appeal only when necessary. That way, even the umpires will have confidence that the keeper is calling it at the right time. Otherwise, if I start behaving like Rizwan, you guys might not give a single decision in my favor,”

he added.

Kishan also weighed in on umpiring standards, stating that new umpires should be more confident in their decisions and avoid being influenced by excessive appealing.

Notably, Ishan Kishan has had a sensational IPL debut for Sunrisers Hyderabad, smashing an unbeaten 106 off just 47 balls at a staggering strike rate of 225.53.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Rizwan is gearing up to lead Pakistan in the upcoming three-match ODI series against New Zealand, which kicks off on March 29 in Napier, followed by matches in Hamilton (April 2) and Mount Maunganui (April 5).

Pakistan will be aiming for redemption after suffering a 4-1 T20I series defeat to New Zealand.
