Abdullah Shafique’s Hat Trick of Ducks-A One Day Series to Forget!

-

Pakistan’s young opening batsman, Abdullah Shafique, has officially set the record for the worst possible start in a one-day series against South Africa—getting out for a duck not once, not twice, but three times! If there was an award for “Most Consistent Duck in a Series,” he’d be the undisputed winner.

In the third and final match of the series, held in Johannesburg, Abdullah found himself bowled out by Kagiso Rabada on the very first ball of the first over. And just like that, he earned himself a spot in the history books for all the wrong reasons.

By getting out for a duck three times in a row, Abdullah became the first opener ever to achieve this unwanted feat in a one-day series. He now shares a special club with cricket legends like Sachin Tendulkar and Ricky Ponting, who also managed the impossible: being out for a duck three times in a series. Well, at least he’s in good company!

After Pakistan’s T20 disaster, they were already celebrating winning the one-day series against South Africa. But Abdullah, not to be left behind, decided to make his own statement. In the first match, he was bowled out by Marco Jansen, and in Cape Town’s second match, it was once again Jansen who ended his innings after just two balls. Talk about quick exits!

The record for being out three times for zero in a row is a rare one, but it’s not entirely unique. Even cricket’s finest, like Tendulkar in 1994 and Ponting in 2000, couldn’t avoid this dubious achievement. Abdullah, though, seems to be bringing a fresh new perspective to the art of getting out for a duck.

While the list of players who’ve joined the “duck club” is long, it includes some big names. You’ve got guys like Salman Butt, Shoaib Mohammad, Shoaib Malik, and others who’ve all had their time in the duck spotlight.

But here’s the kicker: if Abdullah Shafique manages to go for zero again in his next series, he’ll cement his place in cricket history… and possibly start a new record for the most ducks in a row as an opener! Wh ino needs runs when you’ve got such an impressive, albeit unfortunate, legacy?
