Pakistan captain Babar Azam has broken Virat Kohli’s record to become the highest-ranked ODI batsman in the world.
The 27-year-old moved up one spot to number one in the latest ICC rankings, after scoring 196 runs in Pakistan’s 3-0 series win over the West Indies.
Azam has been in excellent form in recent months, scoring centuries in each of his last three ODI innings. He is now the only batsman in the world to have scored more than 10,000 ODI runs at an average of over 50.
Kohli, who had been at the top of the rankings for over five years, dropped to number two after scoring just 29 runs in the West Indies series. The Indian captain is still the highest-ranked Test batsman in the world.
Azam’s rise to number one is a major boost for Pakistan, who are currently ranked number one in the ODI rankings. The team will be hoping that Azam can continue his form in the upcoming T20 World Cup.
