🚨Karachi’s e-challan crackdown is creating waves among city residents. Hakeemullah, a local citizen, received four separate fines in one day for traffic violations at different spots — all registered on the same date! With a monthly income of just PKR 40,000, these fines have become a huge financial burden.
Karachi Traffic Police say their e-challan campaign is in full swing, issuing 3,485 fines in the last 24 hours alone — 2,433 for seat belt violations, 511 for skipping helmets, and 223 for jumping signals.
In protest, Hakeemullah has filed a petition in Sindh High Court, calling the fines unfair and beyond the reach of common citizens. The petition notes that the same seat belt violation in Lahore costs only PKR 200, while Karachi charges PKR 5,000.
The court has issued notices to the Chief Secretary, IG Sindh, DIG Traffic, DG Excise, and NADRA, asking for replies by November 25. The petitioner urges the system to be made fair and requests suspension of hefty fines until a final decision.
