Islamabad High Court Informed of Delegation to the U.S. for Dr. Aafia Siddiqui’s Repatriation Efforts

The Islamabad High Court recently reviewed updates on efforts to bring Dr. Aafia Siddiqui back to Pakistan. During the hearing, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs submitted a proposal for a Prisoner Transfer Agreement with the U.S., which was considered by the court.

The Additional Attorney General confirmed the government’s plan to send a delegation to the United States, emphasizing its commitment to Dr. Siddiqui’s case. The delegation will include current and former lawmakers, senators, military officers, doctors, and Dr. Fawzia Siddiqui, Aafia’s sister.

Justice Sardar Ijaz Ishaq questioned the timeline for the U.S. response regarding the proposed agreement.

In response, the ministry’s representative noted that an answer is expected soon. Dr. Fawzia Siddiqui has also requested a medical examination for her sister, with support from her family, who advocate for Pakistani medical experts to conduct the check-up.

The court assistant, Zainab Janjua, informed the bench that the Prime Minister has approved the delegation’s visit, signaling high-level support for the initiative. Following these updates, the Islamabad High Court adjourned the hearing.
