In a major crackdown on fake news, Pakistan’s government has blocked 86,000 SIM cards linked to anti-state activities.
Parliamentary Secretary Sajid Mehdi shared the news in the National Assembly, revealing the government’s tough stance on controlling Fake News, especially on social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter).
To further tighten the grip on fake news, the government is also restricting VPN usage and planning to update the Electronic Crimes Act. A task force has been set up to handle the issue, with campaigns aimed at raising awareness in schools, colleges, and universities.
Meanwhile, the FIA Cybercrime Wing is now in charge of tackling online crimes, with more power to investigate and act on digital wrongdoing. The battle against fake news is heating up, and the government is serious about keeping things in check.
