KARACHI — In a jaw-dropping medical rescue, doctors at Lyari General Hospital pulled off a rare and risky feat — removing a metal lock from the stomach of a 23-year-old mentally challenged woman, without a single cut or stitch.
The woman, from Khokhrapar, had swallowed the lock in a sudden episode, sending her into severe pain. She was rushed to the emergency room, where an X-ray revealed the shocking cause — a full metal lock lodged inside her stomach.
Doctors Choose Skill Over Scalpel
Instead of going the usual route of surgery, the medical team decided to take the smarter, safer path: laparoscopy. This minimally invasive technique allowed them to remove the lock using tiny instruments — no big cuts, no long recovery.
“We knew this was a risky case, especially given her mental health,” said Professor Anjum Rehman. “But the team acted fast, and we managed to get the job done without open surgery. She’s now safe.”
Stable, Safe, and Under Watch
The patient is now stable and under observation, just to be safe. Doctors are calling it a life-saving win and a proud moment for the Lyari medical team.
From pain to precision, this case proves that sometimes, skill speaks louder than the scalpel.
