Alcohol alone accounts for 2.6 million deaths each year, affecting primarily men, while psychoactive drug use contributes to 0.6 million deaths.

The report underscores the urgent need for global action to reduce substance consumption and improve access to effective treatment for substance use disorders, aiming to mitigate the profound health and social consequences worldwide.
