From one sapling to global spotlight — Malir farmer grows Japan’s famed Miyazaki mango in Karachi
KARACHI: In a stunning triumph of patience, vision, and agricultural grit, Ghulam Hussain Noorani, a humble farmer from Malir’s Memon Goth, has done what few thought possible — he has successfully cultivated the Miyazaki mango, the most expensive mango variety in the world, right here in Karachi.

Known globally as the “Egg of Sunshine” and sometimes “Dinosaur’s Egg”, the Miyazaki mango is celebrated for its deep red-purple hue, fiberless pulp, and luxuriously sweet, creamy taste. Grown originally in Japan’s Miyazaki Prefecture, these mangoes fetch $800 to $900 per kilogram — nearly Rs250,000 to Rs300,000 — on the international market.
It all started six years ago when Noorani imported a single sapling from Japan. While others dismissed the idea as far-fetched, he saw possibility in Pakistan’s soil. With years of careful cultivation, climate adaptation, and unwavering dedication, Noorani has achieved what no one else in the country has: grown export-quality Miyazaki mangoes under Karachi’s sun.
“This is not just a mango — it’s proof that with faith and effort, our land can produce the world’s finest,”
says Noorani.
His breakthrough not only introduces a new ultra-premium variety to Pakistan’s mango basket but also positions the country to enter a high-end international fruit market.
Ghulam Hussain Noorani’s journey from Memon Goth to the pages of global agricultural headlines is more than a personal victory — it’s a proud chapter in Pakistan’s farming future.
