The Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, announced a comprehensive ban on plastic bags province-wide on Sunday.
This significant decision followed a high-level meeting chaired by Senior Punjab Minister Marryium Aurangzeb.
She stated that the ban would be enforced from June 6, in line with Chief Minister Nawaz’s broader vision to implement key measures addressing waste reduction, air quality improvement, and increased plantation efforts by June 30.
Additionally, the government is proactively addressing vehicular emissions by mandating fitness certificates for all vehicles, with annual inspections ensuring compliance with environmental standards.
To promote renewable energy, government buildings will transition to solar power, reducing dependence on fossil fuels. Minister Maryam Aurangzeb emphasized the promotion of local solar panel production to support sustainable renewable energy technologies.
Furthermore, a campaign to plant 20,000 trees along Lahore’s roads is underway to enhance green spaces in the province.
