Earthquake rocks Lahore, Islamabad, Peshawar

-

A 5.6-magnitude earthquake struck several cities in Pakistan and India on Tuesday afternoon. The quake was felt in Lahore, Islamabad, Peshawar, Abbottabad, Swabi, Swat, Bagh, DhirKot, Muzaffarabad, and New Delhi. No loss of life has been reported so far.

The quake originated in Eastern Kashmir at 1:04pm local time. The epicenter was located at 75.97 E and 33.32 N. The quake had a depth of 10 kilometers.

The quake was felt for a short time, but it was strong enough to cause people to rush out of their offices and homes. Some buildings were damaged, but there were no reports of major injuries or deaths.

Sarah Batool Haider, an Islamabad-based journalist, said the tremors were felt for a short time, resulting in people rushing out of their offices. “It was horrifying as this was the second time a quake hit the capital within a short gap,” Haider added.

The quake was the second to hit the region in a short period of time. A 5.2-magnitude quake struck the same area on June 7.

The region is located on a fault line, and earthquakes are common. It is important to be prepared for earthquakes by having an emergency plan in place.

Here are some tips for earthquake preparedness:

  • Create an emergency plan and make sure everyone in your family knows it.
  • Have a survival kit that includes food, water, first aid supplies, and other essentials.
  • Know where to go and what to do if an earthquake strikes.
  • Stay calm and don’t panic.
