Trump Strikes-Blocks China from Nvidia AI Chips, Secures US Tech Supremacy

-

US President Donald Trump has announced that Nvidia’s most advanced AI chips, the “Blackwell” series, will be reserved exclusively for American companies, barring China and other foreign nations from access.

Trump stated during a recent interview and briefing aboard Air Force One, “The most advanced chips will remain with the United States. We don’t give them to other countries.” This move signals a significant tightening of US export controls on high-end semiconductors, amid the intensifying global race for artificial intelligence dominance.

Despite Nvidia supplying over 260,000 Blackwell chips to South Korean firms, China will not have access to the top-tier models. President Trump emphasized that the US cannot allow rival nations to gain strategic or technological advantages through cutting-edge AI hardware.

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang indicated that while the company hopes to eventually access the Chinese market, the decision rests entirely with US authorities. Analysts view this policy as a strategic step to maintain US leadership in AI and semiconductors, while limiting competitors’ capabilities.

This decision highlights the growing intersection of technology and national security, setting the tone for stricter regulations and a more competitive global AI landscape.
