Al Jazeera Exposes India’s Role in Sikh Leader’s Assassination

-

In a jaw-dropping exposé that is sending shockwaves through global politics, Al Jazeera English has unveiled explosive new evidence that directly implicates the Indian government in the ruthless assassination of pro-Khalistan Sikh leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

The documentary pins the blame on top Indian officials, including Home Minister Amit Shah, the head of the intelligence agency RAW, Samant Goel, and other high-ranking members of the government, all accused of orchestrating the cold-blooded killing of Nijjar, a fierce advocate for Sikh independence.

This ground-breaking report not only provides a chilling account of Nijjar’s murder in June 2023 but also details the diplomatic fallout that followed, plunging India’s relations with Canada and the United States into a crisis that threatens to reshape international alliances. The documentary paints a disturbing picture of how Nijjar, a vocal leader in the Khalistan movement, became the target of a deadly operation due to his unflinching activism for an independent Sikh state.

Born in Punjab in 1977, Nijjar’s life was marked by the turmoil of the Khalistan movement, which gained traction after the violent events of Operation Blue Star in 1984, a military assault that killed thousands of Sikhs and left a deep scar in the community. Seeking refuge from political persecution, Nijjar moved to Canada in 1997, where he became a prominent voice for the cause, co-founding “Sikhs for Justice” in 2007. In 2013, he made waves by petitioning the United Nations to recognize the 1984 massacre as genocide—a request dismissed by India, which labeled the events as mere “riots.” Despite this rejection, Nijjar pressed on, leading the Khalistan Referendum campaign, which garnered significant support among the global Sikh diaspora.

By 2014, India had branded Nijjar a terrorist and issued arrest warrants for him. His tragic assassination in June 2023 in Canada led Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to accuse the Indian government of orchestrating the killing, sparking an international crisis. In October 2024, both countries expelled diplomats in a dramatic escalation of tensions.

In yet another shocking twist, the documentary reveals a failed attempt on the life of another Khalistan leader, Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, in the United States. Indian intelligence agents are believed to have been behind the plot, leading to multiple arrests by U.S. authorities and the summoning of India’s National Security Advisor, Ajit Doval, to testify in a New York court.

Despite ongoing investigations and mounting global scrutiny, the assassination of Hardeep Singh Nijjar serves as a chilling reminder of India’s alleged efforts to silence pro-Khalistan voices worldwide, leaving the Sikh diaspora in fear and raising serious questions about India’s reach in targeting activists across borders.
