In an exciting move to blend technology with tradition, Uber has expanded its services to the serene waters of Dal Lake in Indian-occupied Kashmir, offering passengers the unique opportunity to book rides on iconic Shikara boats through an online platform.
Uber has launched a boat service, allowing passengers to book traditional wooden Shikara boats online in the Dal Lake of Indian-occupied Kashmir.
According to Uber’s management, the service will offer online booking for rides on Shikara boats, allowing passengers to travel on these iconic vessels. Customers can book rides up to 12 hours or 15 days in advance, with each boat able to accommodate four passengers. The service will be available daily between 10 AM and 5 PM for one-hour bookings.
Prabhjeet Singh, President of Uber South Asia, stated that the Uber Shikara service aims to promote tourism in the region. Previously, Uber had been offering boat services in Italy (Venice) and other European countries, but this is the first online boat service to be launched in Asia.
Initially, Uber’s fleet will consist of 7 boats, with plans to increase the number based on customer demand. To ensure fair prices for tourists, the service will follow government-approved rates.
Importantly, Uber will not take any commission from its Shikara partners, ensuring that the entire fare goes directly to the boat operators.
