Renowned Indian composer A.R. Rahman’s ex-wife, Saira Banu, has broken her silence on their divorce after 29 years of marriage. She revealed the personal challenges that led to their separation while defending Rahman’s character.
Saira Banu praised Rahman, calling him “one of the best people in the world,” and urged the public to stop spreading false accusations about him. Despite their separation, she emphasized the deep love and trust they share and requested privacy.
In an audio statement reported by Indian media, Saira introduced herself as Saira Rahman and explained that health issues prompted her decision to part ways with Rahman after 29 years of marriage. She shared that her treatment required her to move to Mumbai, as Rahman’s busy schedule in Chennai made it difficult for him to support her medical needs. To avoid burdening her family, she chose separation.
Saira added that she plans to return to Chennai after completing her treatment and reiterated her appeal to refrain from tarnishing Rahman’s reputation.
Rahman and Saira Banu married in 1995, and their union came to an end after nearly three decades.
