‘Rain To Rescue’ – Lahore Prepares for Artificial Showers to Combat Smog

-

Lahore authorities are advancing plans to create artificial rain as a solution to the city’s escalating smog crisis.

Preparations are underway, with experts advising on this project aimed at reducing smog and addressing air pollution. Temporary school closures are also under consideration due to the severe pollution levels affecting children.

The Ministry of Finance has approved a budget of 350 million rupees ($1.2 million) for the initiative, with the Environment and Meteorology Departments leading its implementation.

The Environmental and Meteorological Departments are preparing for artificial rain on November 11 and 12. According to the Meteorological Department, there is a 30% chance of sufficient cloud moisture on these dates. Secretary of Environment Raja Jahangir Anwar mentioned that if moisture-laden clouds appear, this will mark the season’s first trial for artificial rain. Army Aviation has developed the required technology, and favorable weather conditions are essential. All preparations are now complete.
