Saba Qamar Appointed as UNICEF Pakistan’s First National Ambassador for Child Rights

-

In her new role, Qamar will focus on raising awareness about crucial issues affecting children and girls in Pakistan, such as child marriage, education, mental health, and gender equality.

She expressed her gratitude, saying,

“It’s a privilege to collaborate with UNICEF. I am dedicated to promoting child rights and empowering girls across Pakistan.”

UNICEF reports that child marriage remains a serious issue, with Pakistan ranking sixth globally in the number of child brides.

Over half of adolescent girls become mothers before turning 18, endangering both their lives and their children’s. Qamar’s advocacy will play a key role in addressing these challenges.

UNICEF’s Pakistan representative, Mr. Abdullah Fadil, commended Saba Qamar for her dedication, highlighting her as a powerful voice in the movement for child and women’s rights in the country. Together, they aim to create a better future for Pakistan’s youth.
