Karachi Stands with Gaza Thousands Rally to Mark One Year of Israeli Invasion

-

Thousands of demonstrators gathered in Karachi on October 6 to protest against the one-year anniversary of the Israeli invasion of Gaza, calling for an end to what they termed the “genocide” of Palestinians.

The rally, organized by the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) religious party, drew significant participation from women and children and was supported by the ruling Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and other organizations in Sindh.

The event, dubbed the “Gaza Million March,” took place along Shahrah-e-Faisal, where participants carried flags and placards in solidarity with the people of Gaza.

JI leaders, including Naeem-ur-Rehman and Mohammad Farooq, delivered impassioned speeches condemning Israeli military actions, which have reportedly resulted in the deaths of over 41,800 Palestinians since the conflict escalated after Hamas attacked Israel on October 7, 2023.

JI chief Naeem-ur-Rehman highlighted the ongoing violence, asserting, “A genocide of Palestinians is ongoing at the hands of Israel,” and called for the international community to intervene. He criticized Israel for its “inhumane behavior” and its recent territorial claims that threaten the sovereignty of neighboring countries.

PPP’s Nisar Khuhro echoed these sentiments, urging global leaders and the UN to “act responsibly” in addressing the humanitarian crisis. “This gathering sends a powerful message to the Muslim world,” he warned, stressing the need for a unified strategy among Muslim nations.

Participants at the rally voiced their commitment to supporting Palestinians in their struggle for liberation. Student activist Bushra Abdul Ghafoor stated, “As a Muslim nation, we must support each other,” while fellow participant Iqra Khan declared, “Our aim is to achieve the liberation of Palestine.”

Aamir Nawaz Warraich, president of the Karachi Bar Association, lamented the insufficient response from international legal forums regarding the situation, asserting that continued inaction would implicate them in the ongoing oppression.

The rally concluded with a renewed call for solidarity and action against Israeli aggression, as demonstrators pledged to continue their fight for Palestinian right.
