“Travis Head’s Record Knock” – 80 Off 25 Powers Australia to a 7 Wicket Win Over Scotland

-

In a dominant display, Australia clinched a seven-wicket victory over Scotland in the first T20I in Edinburgh, with Travis Head smashing a quickfire 80 off just 25 balls.

Chasing Scotland’s total of 154 for 9, Australia raced to 156 for 3 with more than 10 overs to spare, thanks to Head’s explosive batting and a powerful start.

Scotland began their innings with promise, led by George Munsey, who kept the pressure on Australia’s bowlers with aggressive shots.

Despite regular wickets, Scotland managed to reach 101 for 3 by the 12th over. However, their momentum stalled as Australia’s bowlers, particularly Sean Abbott (3 for 39) and Adam Zampa (2 wickets), tightened the grip, restricting Scotland to 154 for 9.

Any hope of Scotland defending their total was crushed by Head’s remarkable knock, which included a record-equalling 17-ball fifty and 73 runs during a boundary-filled powerplay.

Despite the early dismissal of Jake Fraser-McGurk on his T20I debut, Head and Mitchell Marsh (39 off 11 balls) unleashed a flurry of boundaries, leaving Scotland’s bowlers with no answers. At one point, 14 consecutive deliveries resulted in fours or sixes, as Australia posted the second-highest powerplay total in T20I history—113 for 1.

Though Scotland’s Jack Jarvis and Mark Watt fought back with late sixes, Australia’s victory was never in doubt, wrapping up the match with ease.
