Major car manufacturers in Pakistan, such as Indus Motor Company and Pak Suzuki, have announced plans to start exporting vehicles that are locally assembled and manufactured.
To boost these exports, trade agreements with other countries are needed, as outlined by the auto policy 2021-2026.
Industry leaders suggest that the government should handle these trade deals to facilitate exports by lowering tariffs.
The Auto Industry Development and Export Policy 2021-26 (AIDEP), introduced in 2021, aims to enhance local production and initiate exports. The policy also seeks to end incentives for local car assemblers and promote competition for new companies.
Indus Motor and Suzuki have officially announced their export plans, aligning with the policy’s goals, while other companies are still evaluating their options.
