NASA has issued a warning about a 150-foot (46-meter) asteroid named 2024 NS1 that is speeding towards Earth at 27,274 km/h.
The asteroid, about the size of an airplane, will come closest to Earth on August 2 at 00:05 UTC (5:35 IST).
This asteroid is called an Apollo asteroid because its orbit crosses Earth’s path. Even though many of these space rocks stay far from Earth, some come close enough to be watched carefully.
Fortunately, 2024 NS1 is not considered a major threat because it is too small. It will pass safely at nearly 2 million kilometers away from Earth. NASA will keep an eye on it to make sure its path stays the same.
If an asteroid like this did hit Earth, it could cause damage and injuries. Larger asteroids could lead to even bigger problems, like climate changes or tsunamis
