Marine Ambulance for Fisherman in Balochistan

-

The government in Balochistan is launching a marine ambulance service for fishermen in need at sea and investing 100 million rupees in digitalizing the Fisheries Department.

Currently, freshwater fisheries production in Balochistan stands at 5.7%. The ongoing construction of 100 dams across the province, initiated in 2008, is significantly contributing to the industry’s growth.

To date, 66 dams have been completed, with a collective storage capacity of 0.320 million acre-feet, capable of yielding 273 million tonnes of fish.

Notably, Mirani and Hub dams alone have a production potential of one thousand metric tons of fish.

Furthermore, the establishment of fish hatcheries is further advancing fish farming practices in the region.

Balochistan has launched an ambulance service aimed at aiding fishermen stranded at sea, enhancing maritime safety and rescue operations.

The initiative involves patrol boats equipped with essential medical and rescue gear, ready to respond promptly to distress calls.

This proactive measure aims to elevate maritime safety standards in Balochistan, ensuring swift assistance in the unpredictable Arabian Sea.

Costing Rs. 100 million, the digitalization of Balochistan’s fisheries department facilitates efficient coordination during emergencies.

With approximately 600,000 people involved in the fisheries sector, including 82,583 registered fishermen, this move underscores the government’s commitment to protecting their lives and livelihoods.
