Insights from US State Department’s Deputy Spokes person Vedent Patek

The US State Department, through Deputy Spokesperson Vedant Patel, is actively engaging with Pakistani officials on human rights and freedoms.

Patel highlighted ongoing discussions involving Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Ambassador Donald Blome, and Pakistani counterparts, reaffirming America’s global commitment to citizen rights.

Responding to concerns over US involvement in Pakistan’s elections, Patel underscored America’s stance on respecting human rights. Senior officials like Blinken and Ambassador Blome consistently urge Pakistan to uphold its constitutional and international obligations towards its people.

Patel also emphasized the importance of safeguarding freedoms such as expression, association, assembly, and religion, essential for a democratic society. Addressing allegations of election irregularities, Patel confirmed ongoing US efforts to discuss these issues with Pakistani partners, underscoring their importance to Washington.

Regarding political developments within Pakistan, including the situation involving PTI founder Imran Khan, Patel noted that such matters are internal to Pakistan. He reiterated the US’s concern for human rights while respecting Pakistan’s sovereignty in managing its internal affairs.
