Keeping fragile hopes alive – Pakistan’s convincing victory over Canada

Mohammad Rizwan delivered a well-timed half-century, while Babar Azam showcased leadership with a crucial innings, propelling Pakistan to a seven-wicket victory over Canada on Tuesday.

This win revitalized Pakistan’s chances of progressing to the T20 World Cup Super Eight stage after suffering of two consecutive defeats.

Currently placed third in Group A with two points from one win in three matches, Pakistan’s advancement relies on favorable outcomes.

They need either India or the United States, the top two teams in the group, to lose both their remaining matches, while Pakistan must triumph over Ireland on Sunday.

Similarly, Canada, also with two points, depends on other results to secure a spot in the top two.

They require either the United States or India to lose their upcoming games, while Canada themselves must defeat India on Saturday.

In their match against Canada, Pakistan’s pace bowlers, led by Mohammad Amir (2-13) and Haris Rauf (2-26), dominated proceedings, restricting Canada to a modest total of 106-7.

Aaron Johnson’s resilient half-century stood out amidst a struggling Canadian batting lineup.

Despite a shaky start, Pakistan’s chase gained momentum as Rizwan (53 not out) and Babar (33) anchored the innings with composed batting.

Although Babar fell to Dillon Heyliger (2-18), Pakistan comfortably chased down the target with 15 balls to spare.
