According to the UK Ministerial Code, ministers must register any financial interests or perks held by their spouse or partner, and failing to do so may result in an investigation by the Advisory Committee on Business Appointments. The probe comes on the heels of a recent incident involving former UK Prime Minister David Cameron, who was chastised for lobbying the government on behalf of a finance firm he worked for after leaving office. Sunak’s declaration of interests examination is part of a bigger attempt to promote transparency and accountability inside the UK government.
