Ontario’s Premier Doug Ford responded to repeated remarks by U.S. President-elect Donald Trump about turning Canada into the 51st U.S. state by making a counteroffer:
“I propose the purchase of Alaska and Minnesota instead.”
Speaking to the media, Doug Ford clarified, “I’m joking.”
He added, “
I know Trump enjoys making such comments, but I take them seriously. He might be joking, but under my watch, this will never happen.”
Trump’s controversial statement about Canada becoming the 51st U.S. state sparked a wave of outrage and humor across Canadian social media. While some dismissed it as a lighthearted remark, others criticized it as an affront to Canada’s sovereignty.
