In a shocking revelation, beggars in the UAE are making more money per hour than many professionals! Sharjah Police have exposed how individuals are exploiting public generosity, with some earning as much as 367 dirhams (Rs. 28,000) in just 60 minutes.
According to a Khaleej Times report, Emirati authorities conducted an experiment where an officer disguised as a beggar collected 367 dirhams within just one hour. The police also released a video showing a man begging on the streets and receiving money from passersby, highlighting how individuals exploit public generosity, especially during Ramadan, despite not being in genuine need.
Sharjah Police urged citizens to refrain from giving money to beggars and instead guide them toward employment opportunities. They also advised reporting beggars by calling 80040 or 901, emphasizing that while charity is a responsibility, begging is a crime.
On Sunday, Dubai Police arrested 33 beggars of various nationalities in the first 10 days of Ramadan as part of their “Aware Society, Beggar-Free Community” campaign.
Begging is illegal in the UAE, with violators facing a fine of 5,000 dirhams and up to three months in jail. Those running organized begging operations or bringing people from other countries to beg face six months in prison and a fine of 100,000 dirhams. Additionally, unauthorized fundraising can result in penalties of up to 500,000 dirhams.
