The numbers are out — and they’re jaw-dropping. Between 2010 and 2024, the pension of Pakistan’s Chief Justice has surged over 327%, with lavish perks still in play.
A written reply by the Ministry of Law and Justice to the Senate reveals that in 2024, a retired Chief Justice draws Rs 23.9 lakh in monthly pension. The widow of a judge is also entitled to a driver, an orderly, 2,000 free electricity units, free water, and 300 liters of petrol every month.
Back in 2010, the monthly pension was just Rs 5.6 lakh. It rose steadily — Rs 6.44 lakh in 2011, Rs 7.73 lakh in 2012, Rs 8.5 lakh in 2013, Rs 9.35 lakh in 2014, and crossed the million mark in 2015 at Rs 10.05 lakh.
The climb continued: Rs 11.05 lakh in 2016, Rs 12.17 lakh in 2017, Rs 13.38 lakh in 2018, Rs 14.52 lakh in 2021, Rs 16.57 lakh in 2023 — before shooting up to the present Rs 23.9 lakh in 2024.
That’s not just an increase — it’s a leap.
