WhatsApp will soon stop working on older iPhone and Android models by the end of this year. This change affects users of 35 smartphone models and is part of WhatsApp’s effort to focus on devices that can support its latest features and security updates.
If you own an iPhone 5, iPhone 6, iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus, or iPhone SE, or an older Samsung, Motorola, Huawei, Lenovo, Sony, or LG model, you will need to upgrade to a newer device to continue using WhatsApp without any interruptions.
The new minimum requirements for WhatsApp are an Android device running version 5.0 or later, or an iPhone with iOS 12 or later.
Using outdated devices may limit functionality, prevent access to new features, and pose security risks. Therefore, affected users are encouraged to upgrade their smartphones soon.
WhatsApp will notify affected users multiple times to remind them to upgrade their devices before the app stops working on older models at the end of the year.
