LG Display has unveiled a groundbreaking flexible OLED screen that can stretch, bend, and attach to fabric, paving the way for innovative applications in wearable tech and beyond.
The 12-inch prototype can extend to 18 inches and features red, green, and blue pixels at a density of 100 pixels per inch, significantly lower than smartphone screens, which typically boast 300 to 500 ppi. Utilizing contact lens technology and a micro-LED light source, the screen can endure over 10,000 stretches without damage.
Although LG Display previously showcased a stretchable OLED at Seoul Fashion Week in September, it’s unclear if this is the same prototype. The company has suggested potential uses in automotive touchscreens and wearable displays for real-time data on uniforms, rather than traditional TV screens.
