Available to a limited group of beta testers, this update introduces augmented reality (AR) effects, new document scanning tools, and customizable video backgrounds.
As reported by WABETAINFO, the update includes AR effects that can now be applied directly through the camera interface. A new “wand” icon appears next to the gallery icon in the WhatsApp camera viewfinder, allowing users to add fun effects such as confetti, star windows, underwater scenes, glow, karaoke, and more. Additionally, users can now choose from various new backgrounds that can mask their surroundings and allow for greater customization in their video content.
One of the standout features in this update is the document scanning tool, which can be accessed through the file-sharing window. The “Scan Document” option allows users to capture and scan documents directly within the app. The feature includes filters like color, grayscale, and black and white, and it automatically crops the image to fit. Users can also toggle the auto-shutter option, which automatically takes a photo when the document is properly positioned in the camera viewfinder. This makes sharing scanned documents even easier.
The update also includes “Low Light Mode,” which adjusts brightness and contrast for better visibility in dimly lit environments, ensuring high-quality photos and videos. Furthermore, the update introduces enhanced video editing options, including the ability to adjust facial expressions, color tones, and smooth skin using “Touch Up Mode,” which helps users look their best during video calls.
WhatsApp has also added some festive features, such as New Year call effects, new animations, and sticker packs, to celebrate the season.
These new features are available in the WhatsApp iOS app version 24.25.93 and are currently being rolled out to a select group of users. With the updates aimed at improving both user experience and convenience, these enhancements are expected to be available to all users soon.
