The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has warned mobile phone buyers against purchasing cloned or duplicate mobile devices.
“Always buy phones from reliable retailers and ensure that the phone is under warranty,” the PTA said in a statement and added that people should be cautious when buying mobile devices
The PTA announced that such devices will be blocked to stop illegal activities.
PTA advised users to
- Buy phones from trusted sources,
- Ensure they come with a warranty
- check for a PTA stamp on the box.
- Also, make sure the IMEI number on the box matches the one on the phone.
Understand IMEI
Users should verify their phone’s IMEI on the Dirbs website or by texting it to 8484.
If you get a PTA message about your phone being cloned, check the IMEI by dialing *#06# and compare it with the PTA message.
If issues persist, you should upload proof of purchase and tax payment on the PTA’s complaint website: complaint.pta.gov.pk.
The PTA also cautioned against buying expensive phones sold at unusually low prices or without a warranty.
They advised buying only packaged phones and contacting the seller if problems arise.
If you suspect fraud, report it to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).
