On Wednesday, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif announced a historic development budget for the current fiscal year aimed at enhancing the Information Technology and Telecom sectors.
He emphasized the government’s focus on boosting I.T exports.
These statements were made during a meeting with a four-member delegation from the GSM Association, led by Asia Pacific head Julian Gorman, according to the PM Office Media Wing.
The meeting also featured Minister of State for I.T and Telecom Shaza Khawaja Fatima, Chairman of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority Major General (retired) Hafeezur Rehman, and other senior officials.
The prime minister praised the GSMA’s role in digitization and supported the Digital National Summit in Islamabad to advance telecom and I.T.
He discussed ongoing I.T reforms and digitization efforts aimed at improving internet access, digital infrastructure, E-Governance, digital skills training for youth, and business promotion.
He reiterated the vision of providing smartphone access to everyone, broadband internet to all households, and QR Code facilities for businesses.
The delegation briefed the prime minister on GSMA’s global impact, including its role in Pakistan, and expressed strong interest in enhancing collaboration with the government in I.T and telecom.
