Pakistan Surges 14 Spots in UN E-Government Index 2024, Achieves High EGDI Status

-

Pakistan has made significant strides in digital governance, climbing to 136th place in the United Nations (UN) E-Government Development Index (EGDI) for 2024, up from 150th position in 2022.

This advancement signifies the country’s move from the “Middle EGDI category” to the “High EGDI category,” highlighting notable progress in its digital government capabilities.

The nation’s EGDI value has risen to 0.5095, a substantial increase from 0.4238 two years ago. While Pakistan still lags behind global frontrunners such as Denmark (0.9847) and regional leaders like Singapore (0.969) and the Maldives (0.6745), this leap represents a significant milestone.

Minister of State for Information Technology Shaza Fatima Khawaja has underscored the government’s dedication to advancing digital infrastructure. At a recent event in Islamabad, she called for collaborative efforts to drive innovation and emphasized the role of the private sector in achieving a fully digital Pakistan. She also noted improvements in cyber security, positioning Pakistan as a leader in this crucial area.

This rise in ranking underscores Pakistan’s ongoing commitment to enhancing its digital governance and connectivity, marking a key achievement in its journey towards a more digitally empowered future.
